Boy or girl? (Caregiver, that is)
by Real moms-to-be
What's your preference - male or female Ob/Gyn - and why? Here's what five moms had to say!
"I didn't think I'd care until I was pregnant with my first child; then, having a female doctor who'd had experienced two pregnancies herself was great, especially during labor when she could tell me exactly how to push. Afterward, too, when I had postpartum depression, she could totally sympathize, having gone through it herself. I'll definitely have a female doctor for any subsequent pregnancies/labors." - Katie
"If you asked me a few years ago, I would've probably said a woman - but my exams for birth control at family planning were with a woman, and they were very painful! My current Ob/Gyn is a man. My exams are virtually painless, and he's very gentle. I guess it depends on the doctor. But surprisingly, I feel comfortable with either." - Shasta
"I voted for female, and that's just because I prefer midwives over Ob/Gyns. Most of the midwives I know are women." - Stacey
"I don't really care. My current Ob/Gyn is a woman. I am more comfortable with a man poking around down there, yet the women can relate better. Mine has three kids as well, so it's cool." - Katie
"Here is my theory: I wouldn't take my car to a mechanic who had never owned a car. So I am not taking my vagina (sorry to be so blunt) to a doctor who never owned a vagina." - Ranae
