1. Don't wear anything that will leave a mark or indentation on your body. "This usually means no bra or underwear or anything elastic around your belly. If your photographer is coming to your house, this can be done pretty easily." Coan advises moms to schedule their sessions early in the day, then "take a morning bath, or lounge in your robe until your photographer arrives."

2. If you are going to a studio, wear a loosely fitting dress. "But remember, no bra or panties!" (We'll never tell!)

3. Communicate. "If there is a particular robe, fabric or outfit that you love, be sure to tell your photographer so she can use it for your portraits."

4. Hair and makeup? "Wear them as you always do. Some clients like to get done up; other just leave hair in a ponytail. Whatever will make you the most comfortable and feel the best will work."

5. Remember: "This is a special time for you, about you. Enjoy it and have fun!"
