All tips : Beauty inspiration : Hair : A hairy problem

A hairy problem
by Nancy and Betsy

Did you really think that the thick, lustrous hair you had during pregnancy was going to last? Alas, no. Around three months postpartum, you'll be shedding more hair than you can possibly imagine. You'll find strands everywhere, including in your baby's hands (and maybe even his diapers). This phenomenon is called telogen effluvium.

Fortunately, it doesn't mean permanent hair loss, and it won't give you big bald patches! When you're not pregnant, you grow and lose hair all the time in pretty much equal proportions. But during these 10 or so months, your scalp rests - and holds on to those locks.

Once your hormones drop back to more normal levels, you have some extra hair to get rid of. The shedding should only last a month or two.
