Prenatal Yoga Center - NYC
by Debra Flashenberg and Alyssa Miller
Many expecting moms today lead a busy and sometimes stressful life. The Prenatal Yoga Center helps expecting moms alleviate many of the discomforts of pregnancy such as nausea, swelling, back pain and sciatica. The program, conducted in a calm & peaceful environment in New York City on 72nd Street and Broadway, will help strengthen the uterus and pelvic muscles, improve circulation, exercise the spine and increase overall comfort.
Classes at the Prenatal Yoga Center also help bring awareness to the mind, body and spirit, and also the spirit of your baby. To help quiet the students' anxious minds pranayama, the art of conscious breathing, is practiced. The awareness of breathing allows expecting moms to surrender and release tension from their body and mind, a useful tool during labor.
Other programs such as postnatal yoga, mommy and me yoga and children's yoga are offered. Postnatal yoga specifically focuses on rebuilding strength in the abdominal, back and pelvic muscles. Mommy and me yoga focuses on strengthening the spiritual, emotional and physical bond between parent and child. Children's Yoga helps release a child's imagination while increasing flexibility, coordination and strength.
Debra Flashenberg and Alyssa Miller are co-owners and teach most of the classes. Debra studied with renowned prenatal yoga teacher Colette Crawford and is certified to teach Bikram and Vinyasa Yoga.
