The perfect summer manicure
by Susie Galvez
What's the perfect manicure for summertime -- especially for a pregnant mom-to-be who doesn't want to fuss with her nails? Spa owner and author Susie Galvez has some advice!
It is hard to beat a French manicure -- both for style as well as ease in wearing. Another great choice would be one of the new sheer colors that all of the stars are wearing, such as a hint of pink, or a pearlized beige color. In addition to being all the vogue, the colors are light, so they do not show chips or worn ends.
Usually with the lighter colors, if you remember to add a coating of a top coat at least every other day, you can make a French or lighter-color manicure last over a week! (Typical wearing time for regular manicures is three to four days.)
As for pedicures, most will last about a month. Our toes take less of a day-to-day beating, so the polish on the toes last longer. At our spa, we do quite a few expecting moms, especially when reaching the toes becomes a bit too hard to do!
The "rule of thumb" is keep it light on the hands, and go wild on the toes! Show off your tootsies in a great wow color -- have some fun! Bright toes will make you smile every time you see them peeking out of the sheets, or out of the bubbles in the bath. Plus, sandals seem to just call for jazzy feet!
