Amp it up: Shiny hair
by Nancy and Betsy
Shine is a natural by-product of healthy tresses that contain proper moisture. Straight hair reflects more light off its flat surface and normally generates more sparkle. For a megawatt shine, follow these special hairstyling tips from haircare guru Karen Shelton of HairBoutique.com:
1. Avoid hot water - a "moisture robber" - when you shampoo.
2. Finish with a two- to three-minute cool water rinse to seal cuticles and promote instant sparkle.
3. Allow shine-enhancing natural oils to remain on the cuticle by limiting daily shampoo use.
4. Select hair care and styling products designed specifically to add shine for your hair's texture.
5. Use an ion shine blowdryer, such as Conair's.
6. When using hot styling tools, always use a heat protection product. Direct blowdryer air current from the hair roots to ends to flatten the cuticle for more shine.
7. Finish blowdrying session with cold shot option or blast of cool air to seal in moisture.
8. Protect your hair from damaging sun, wind, heat, salt water and pool chemicals.
9. Perform weekly hot oil or deep conditioning treatments to lock in moisture.
10. Eat healthy, get good rest, take your prenatal vitamins and manage stress.
When you need immediate sparkle, pour a tiny amount of jojoba oil into the palms of your hands and smooth over the top of your dry hair from the ears to the ends. Voila: instant shine!
