Help for healthy hair
by Cyndi Mathews

Don't be surprised by postpartum hair changes. Often, your "new" hair will be a little different in texture and color than that from before you were pregnant. What can you do to keep your locks lovely?

  • Continue to take your prenatal vitamins every day.
  • After shampooing, rinse your hair with cool, not hot, water.
  • Avoid hot hair styling appliances (find a blow dryer with a "cool" setting).
  • Gently and regularly brush your hair.
  • Stay away from sticky gels and hairsprays.
  • Ask around until you find a great stylist.
  • Get regular trims to keep your hair looking its best.

During pregnancy, use a shampoo and conditioner with a properly balanced pH level to keep your hair as healthy as possible. You also should avoid hair treatments such as perming, straightening or coloring until your body isn't so affected by hormonal shifts.
