Midnight snacks

Somehow, just a few hours after dinner, you're ready for something to eat. Here are some calcium-rich cures for your growling tummy!

  • Baby carrots and veggies: Eat them with a reduced-fat dip made with leek, vegetable or onion soup mix and low-fat or non-fat sour cream.

  • Quesadilla: Heat a flour tortilla (in the oven, toaster oven or hot skillet) with grated cheddar or Monterey jack cheese on top. Remove from heat and add salsa, guacamole, sour cream, beans or cooked chicken.

  • Yogurt with granola: Start with your favorite type of yogurt, and stir in granola (maybe a spoonful of wheat germ, too).

  • Smoothie: Combine orange juice concentrate, yogurt, fruit, milk and ice. Blend until smooth and frothy

  • Sweet and creamy: Mix fresh or canned fruit into low-fat cottage cheese.
