"You haven't had that baby yet?!"
by Real moms-to-be

"You haven't had that baby yet?!" It's one of the oldest questions in the book – and one of the most annoying. Six moms on had to vent.

"I swear, if one more person asks me that, I'm going to haul off and slug 'em! Okay, maybe not, but I think I'd feel a lot better if I could! For the past week, especially since my doctor said I could go any day, I get the daily phone calls... everyone checking in to see if there's any 'progress.' Everyone wants to know about every little twinge or possible contraction." - Heather

"I hear you, girlfriend! Ever since I went to labor and delivery this past Saturday night for my false amniotic fluid leak, I have gotten multiple calls daily… I bet this baby won't come until after my due date now. But, people keep calling to check. I appreciate their concern, but they have to realize that we are not going to forget to call them when the time comes!" - Julie

"Sounds like you need to change the message on your answering machine... 'No, we haven't had the baby yet. When we do, we'll be sure to let you know.' Maybe if you let that answer the phone for awhile, people would quit calling so much." - Amy

"I am right there with you! My phone started ringing this morning at 7:30 a.m. with the same questions: 'Did you go into labor? Are you going to the hospital? What are you feeling?' Do people think we wouldn't call?" - Hilary

"My first child was born 14 days past my due date. I was so depressed that, when people said, 'Haven't you had that kid yet?' I'd start crying. So with my second child, I lied. I told everyone that my due date was 14 days later than it really was, so I wouldn't hear any of that." - Vicki

"I'd just say, 'Progress? I don't know… Let me go get a latex glove and check myself for you!' Maybe that'll shut them up." - Gretchen
